Series Rules
1. We have never set up an event like this before so any questions, concerns, clarifications, suggestions, enhancements, or other constructive comments will be much appreciated. Complaints can be sent along with your planned training event. (Hey, we'll need to start collecting events for the next series!)

2. Winners will be compiled from similar Team Formats:
- 2 or more (Co-ed, Male, Female)
- 1 person (Male, Female)
Both members and nonmembers may participate.

3. Training Events are scheduled and completed by each team. We are encouraging teams to schedule Joint Training Events and we will give BONUS TIME for doing so. See scoring below for details.

4. The Series Race is composed of 3 Required Core Training Events, Optional events to gain bonus minutes, and Joint Training BONUS MINUTES.
Scoring is as follows

A. 3 Required Core Training Events. Each team MUST COMPLETE ALL 3 CORE EVENTS.
- Each Core Event has a specific trail, path, or loop to be followed.
- Time your event from point to point as instructed.
- Answer questions along the way (if required). 30 minute Penalty time assessed for incorrect answers. Take your time to get the answer correct.

Scores from CORE EVENTS are calculated as follows:
- Combined completion time for ALL 3 Required Core Training Events
- Add Penalty Minutes to Combined Total.
Example:
Event#1 = 100 minutes, 1 Question incorrect = 30 Penalty minutes
Event#2 = 120 minutes, 0 Penalty minutes
Event#3 = 140 minutes, 2 Questions incorrect = 60 Penalty minutes
Total = 360 minutes, Total Penalty Minutes = 90
Total Core Event Score = 360 + 90 = 450 minutes

B. OPTIONAL EVENT BONUS MINUTES
- There are 5 Optional Training Events.
- Teams may do as many Optional Training Events as they have a desire, time, motivation, etc. to do as long as any answers are turned in by the Series Deadline.
- Optional Training Events are NOT based on TIME, but instead earn BONUS MINUTES based on Correct Answers.
- Optional Events are similar to the Core Events, but require you to answer questions along the way. You do not have to run, bike, paddle, etc. a specific path, but you do have to answer the questions. If you are doing an Optional Event you MUST answer ALL the Questions for that Optional Event. If you do not submit answers for ALL the questions the unanswered Questions will be scored as incorrect.

1. Each Correct Answer receives 15 BONUS MINUTES
2. Each Incorrect Answer receives 45 PENALTY MINUTES
Scores from OPTIONAL EVENTS are calculated as follows:
- Subtract BONUS MINUTES from CORE SCORE Total.

Example: This team only did 2 Optional Events
Opt.#1 = 3 Questions. 3 Correct Answers = 45 Bonus, 0 Penalty
Opt.#2 = 4 Questions. 2 Correct, 1 Incorrect, 1 unanswered = 15+15 = 30 Bonus, 45+45 = 90 Penalty
Total BONUS MINUTES = 75, Total Penalty Minutes = 90
Total Overall Score = CORE - BONUS + PENALTY
Total Overall Score = 450 – 75 + 90 = 465

C. JOINT TRAINING BONUS MINUTES
- Meeting with another team for a Training Event (Core or Optional) is encouraged with BONUS MINUTES.
- 30 BONUS MINUTES will be given to teams participating in Joint Training. The catch is in the proof!
- To receive credit for the JOINT TRAINING you have to submit a photo (digital preferred, but anything accepted) of you and the other team(s) together in front of something obvious from that training event. Example: a picture of two teams in front of a tree would not work, however two teams in front of the Pine Log Mountain Sign is perfect.
- Some of these pictures will get posted to the TrailBlazer website and others will be held and displayed as part of a slide show on the night we announce the winners.
- Feel free to submit any and all photos, even they are just of you out having fun training. Special mention may be given for goofy, interesting, picturesque, etc. photos.

Scores from JOINT TRAINING EVENTS are calculated as follows:
Example: Team 1 and Team 2 get together for the SOPE CREEK Core Event. They take a picture of the teams in front of a sign stating Sope Creek…blah, blah.
Each Team receives 30 JOINT TRAINING BONUS MINUTES for participating in a Joint Training with another team(s). You can do up to 8 joint training events, just don’t forget the proof.

D. Summary of SCORING:
- Add 3 Core Event Times
- Add Penalty Minutes from Incorrect Answers from Core Events.
- Subtract Bonus Minutes from Optional Events
- Add Penalty Minutes from Optional Events
- Subtract Bonus Minutes from Joint Training
- LOWEST SCORE WINS

5. CHEATING – Of course cheating is discouraged, however, it is something we can not control. If you trim times, share answers, etc., there is nothing we can do. To allow this Series Race format to work you will have to record your own times, and schedule your own events. Please be HONEST, the point of this event is to have a little more fun while training.
