How is everyone doing?

Myself and two guys I work with are wanting to do the natchez trace race in March, but have no clue what to expect. Has anyone done this race, and is it something that complete newbies should attempt? We are not looking to win, but finishing, or coming close would be awesome. We are in fairly good shape. A few of us do triathlons, and 5 and 10K runs, and do some mountain biking...

We are planning to attend the clinic/meeting on Feb 7th at REI in Brentwood.

Thanks for your help...
Daniel

Daniel,

Welcome to Adventure Racing! I have never done the Natchez Trace AR, so I hope that someone else on here can give you feedback on their experiences in previous years.

As long as at least one of you has basic navigation skills, all of you have basic mountain biking skills and are in decent physical shape, and you all get along well with each other out in the woods, then I would say that this sounds like a good spring race to try as your first AR.

You'll find out pretty quickly that your running/tri backgrounds will help BUT AR is a VERY different kind of sport (and that the physical demands are just one part of the whole equation). It's fun as hell, and I think you guys will have a blast.

Glad you guys can make the meeting on the 7th. You'll learn a lot by meeting and talking with other racers. And we'll be covering some basic nav. information if you guys need to bone up on it.

If you PM me your email addresses I'll put you on the email-list for Nashville branch.

Karin

I volunteered for this race during its 2nd or 3rd year. At that time it was definitely a good race for beginners. I'm not sure how it has evolved though.

Team TriathlonDVD.com is a go! However, we've got an extra guy! He is a Vandy triathlete who wants to race in the short version. He has never done and AR before, but is in pretty good shape. Anyone looking for a partner from Nashvegas?

Here's a link to the race for more info: http://www.ascentoutdoorsadventure.racesonline.com/

Sounds like a great race for people of all levels, but would be a great race for newbies. I hope your friend finds a team-mate Mark!

Does Craig have a teammate yet? I would be interested if he wants to go coed. I have a logistics problem but it can be worked out.

Checked out the results but names aren't listed, just team names. How did area folks make out in this race? Results? Well run race?

Please post back here, or start a thread on the race, down in the Race Reviews section.

Yes, there is another meeting scheduled for Wednesday Feb 25 (7pm-9pm) at REI. There will be racers there who have done this race and can provide you with more info on what to expect. Hope you can make it!! There will be updates on the meeting in this thread: http://www.trailblazerar.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=6148

Also, if you want to receive newsletters once a month on upcoming Nashville area events, please PM me your email address and I will put you on the distribution list.
