Yes, he added that waypoint because I had to open my big fat mouth...
North of CP 11 there are some big hills and a trail shown running down the ridgeline to the north down to Hwy 20. Problem is they have built a neighborhood there, so that trail doesn't exist, and you have to tromp though private property to get to the neighborhood road. I assumed Toby intended us to follow Boston Creek, but I wanted to bring it up, as I didn't want to be whacking through that crap while everyone else was jogging along the neighborhood road...
Also, if you headed back out to Woodall Road then crossed Hwy 20 and headed north to CP12, you would have had to go through a little private property to get CP12. Following the creek was the only way to stay on COE or WMA land. |

Well ... Lisa ... I for one thank you for opening up your "big fat mouth."
We had that route marked on our map, and nothing confuses me more than happening upon a subdivision that isn't on the map. Last time I was at Allatoona I spent 45 minutes running around that subdivision next to Blankets Creek when I just wanted to bushwhack back to the parking lot.

Yep! That's where we went ... We went just up the hill past that, proving there's a fine distinction between being a "hick" and "redneck." We considered that stack a road marker. |

(and a small road came in from the right) I guess we just missed the intersection you're talking about (I assume it went to the left) we chose one of them, but I guess it was too low on the hill..
that was where I got my bee sting.. _________________ I'm Crappin' you NEGATIVE... |

How many folks got stung at CP-B. I got hit 5 times in less than 30 seconds. Getting out of there is the fastest I ran the entire race.

| Funny I was just thinking the same thing. Did everyone get stung in this race? I got one on my hand and two on my back as I tried to escape. |

Tim on our team punched CP 12 first out of all of us in our large group, so that's why you likely didn't see us walk away. |
Sneaky little bugger.
I guess Tim got tired of running into us on the course (or maybe us running into you during the paddle)? _________________ Brian M. |

LOL! You know the rest of the teams are in trouble when one of the racers knows more about the route options than the race director does

| I got five my navigator got five and Laurie got one. We were pretty worried about Laurie's as she is highly allergic. Last time she was stung was a mad rush to the emergency room. Since then she has been taking allergy shots (for about a year now) to build up an immunity. I guess that worked. Actually, could have saved her life this weekend. Scary stuff to think about. |

Hey Brian ... Who you calling little
You guys made that stretch of the paddle interesting for sure ... It kept me awake! I really enjoyed the paddling section -- few boats at night, nice weather, good 80s tunes to sing. If only there had been moonlight. |

Hmmm...I think I was supporting Bill's team at BlueRidge a few years back when I watched him hand draw in a very critical road (not shown on the race map) all from memory.....every twist and turn! I do think that helped you guys just a "tad"...better to ride a road then bikewhack thru Rhodo hell...any comments Mr Cox?
Definitely helps to have some local knowledge! I hope the folks putting on Nationals at BR can put on a challenging course that is not too biased towards locals. I am OK with a little bias though!
Cheers,
Neal |
